News

@WPC for 23rd February, 2012

This week Messy Church
Our first Messy Church gathering for 2012 is this Sunday February 26th from 4.30-6.30pm at WPC. Our theme for the evening is Love in Action. We will be having messy fun creating a hand print communion cloth, making fruit kebabs and Lenten moneyboxes, followed by our informal worship and a delicious meal provided by our kitchen team. All are welcome

Thank you Pancakes in the Park
Tuesday evening was a fine and warm evening for being outdoors in the park eating pancakes and sausages with some great music playing in the background. Around 90 people from our two churches and the local community enjoyed one another's company in what was a very good community-connecting event. Thanks very much to Sue Myhill for her wonderful organisation and to Bill Gaynor and David who played for us.

Lent Life Groups
The focus for our Life Groups meeting during Lent is a five week Lent course called 'Finding a Voice' based on the movie The King's Speech.

The weekly meetings will look at short clips of the movie and the themes within it.  We have three Life Groups meeting on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, starting from 28th February.

If you haven't already done so, please let Kath Sutherland, our Adult Education elder know that you would like to join a group and she will be able to help you.  Email kathsutherland@gmail.com or phone Ph: 027 563 5795

World Day of Prayer service
WPC will be hosting the annual World Day of Prayer service on Friday March 2nd at 7pm. The focus country for this year's service is Malaysia. This is always a worthwhile service as we hear the story of and pray for the issues and needs of the focus country.  Any queries: Heather Lane 472 7240 lanes@inspire.net.nz

Church in the Park
Sunday March 4th
is National Children's Day and we will be celebrating that by holding our 10am service in the park. The St Luke's congregation will be joining us this year. Our service will be based around the story of Noah's Ark and Sunday's Cool and youth group will be making preparations for their part in the service over the next couple of weeks. Bring a picnic morning tea to enjoy in the park. Wet/windy venue: WPC.  St Luke's are holding an 8am reflective service that day for those who would prefer something a little quieter.

New Community Minister
Our congregational meeting on Sunday 19th February voted unanimously in favour of calling the Rev Sue Fenton as Community Minister at WPC. Presbytery upheld this decision at its meeting on February 21st. So it's all go! We are now planning for Sue's induction service which will be held at WPC on Thursday March 15th at 7.30pm. Rev Barry Kelk from the B@CH congregation in Dunedin (part of Highgate Presbyterian Church) will be preaching in the service.

New Green paper on Vulnerable Children submission
Parish Council was delighted at its meeting on February 15th to endorse a submission on the Green Paper which has now been submitted to the Ministry of Social Development in the name of WPC. Thank you to the group who worked on WPC's behalf to write the submission.

Kings Table Food Bank
Thank you for your donations to the Kings Table Food Bank, this week you are invited to bring tins (fish, spaghetti, tomatoes, sweet corn etc.).  Donations can be left in the blue basket at the back of the church.  Also if you have any extra fresh fruit or veges from your garden that would be appreciated.
